Nontsikelelo Martel

Sustainable Communities Manager

Nontsikilelo is an environmental scientist by profession, and being a wife and mom is her other occupation. Nontsiki has mostly worked in consultancy firms focusing on environmental impact assessments, public participation and environmental monitoring & supervision on construction projects.
Nontsiki joined Thrive recently with the hope of using her skills and knowledge towards creating awareness around environmental sustainability. She says, “I enjoy working and engaging with communities, and looking at or assessing how their actions impact on their environment, and how it then impacts on them.

“I also enjoy being involved in projects or initiatives where there is that personal interaction with people,  and where one can measure or assess impact over time, rather than short term contracts where one moves on to other projects and is not around to see if one's work actually has a positive impact or not.

“In order to create an ever advancing civilization our actions today will impact future generations positively or negatively depending on the choices and actions we take. I therefore live and work towards the following words: ‘Strive that your actions day by day may be beautiful prayers.’”
